Weather balloons, aka radiosondes, are used world-wide to sense altitude, pressure, temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, and other variables, such as cosmic rays and ozone.  The Perlan Project has its own radiosonde capability, which we launch as-needed, so we can more precisely understand the conditions at the launch site.  The collected information is fed into our numerical weather prediction models, and that output informs launch decisions based on expected wave lift and other flight conditions.
